Fissure Sealants

Fissure sealants are a protective plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surface of the back teeth, to ensure that you never need fillings.

The chewing surface of back teeth has small grooves, known as fissures. Brushing alone is not enough to clean these fissures, therefore food particles can stick to them and cause decay. Fissure sealants seal off these grooves completely, preventing any food particles or bacteria from getting into the tooth, without affecting the natural chewing function of the teeth.
